Good location for Windermere, excellent rooms with good beds and showers, use of the pool and sauna included - these were nice but a bit small for the number of people staying there, some good art work too

Windermere was a lovely little town and great as a home base to see other areas around the Lake District. There are many Bars, Restaurants and Cafes around the area great to start the day or finish the day with a Pint. Many beautiful walks around for all fitness levels. Highly recommend these cafe's eateries.. Toast, HomeGround, The Crafty Baa and The Elleray does a great Chicken Burger!

So much to see with excellent bus service that can take you virtually anywhere. There are boats that take scenic cruises to various spots around the lake. Wish I had more time because the variety of places to visit I would say can take at least a week.

Windermere is very small and pretty, but you're better off...
Windermere is very small and pretty, but you're better off going to Bowness if you want all that *plus* the views. Windermere was quieter than Bowness though, which makes it a great place to stay over if you're travelling to more touristy places nearby in the daytime. There is an amazing gift shop in Windermere on the corner, and the Tapas restaurant looked great, even though we didn't get time to eat there. The park on Park Road was lovely for dogs and kids, and big enough to have a proper walk around.

An average selection of shops and bars/restaurants.
An average selection of shops and bars/restaurants. Bowness-on-Windermere is approx 1 mile away, this has a better choice of bars/shops/restaurants. The bus station in Windermere is located near the main road entrance. Bus trips are currently £2 per person each way (April 2024) and we decided to travel by bus to Keswick and enjoy the stunning scenery, and no expensive parking charges. Will definitely be going back to Windermere.

I have fallen in love of Windermere.
I have fallen in love of Windermere. I love hiking and nature and this place have everything you need to hike for days, do cycling and much more. Ideal for solo travelers or to visit with family and dogs. I will probably repeat the experience but in summer as some trails are better done with sun conditions /dry paths. There are lots of nice places and different restaurants in Bowness with fantastic food to enjoy. I would really recommend Windermere and closer villages like Grasmere / Ambleside for anyone wanting to spend some days surrounded by nature.

First of all do not book this property with breakfast...
First of all do not book this property with breakfast included. You basically just pay too much for toast and butter! Nearby town has very nice cafes. Also make sure your room is not damped like our’s was! It was unbelievable!
They never cleaned our room and had to ask four times for fresh towels! The location is very nice but unfortunately the quality of the hotel has dropped significantly since last time we stayed in it! It was a huge disappointment.
Our time here was amazing, we enjoyed the Lakes area and this apartment so much! Location is perfect - few minutes walk from the Windermere train station and tons of restaurants and shops are also a short walk away. The apartment had so much room for our family of four (3 adults, 1 teen). Everything was sparkling new and worked perfectly! The only things I would note are if you are traveling with young kids or anyone with mobility issues, the stairs will probably be challenging for you. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend to stay here!
The location itself is excellent, in the Lake District, close to Bowness on Windermere, and walks out the backdoor to Brant Fell and others. The Oaks itself is so relaxing, quality furnishings, fabulous kitchen with four ovens... and dining area, numerous lounge rooms so everyone can find their own space if they wish to, so no one on top of each other. The bedrooms with en suite showers and toilets were just perfect. I would not hesitate to book again and return.
And then of course there was the view...
This apartment is very tastefully done up, and is also newly renovated with appliances. But the real luxury is the way the host has anticipated your every need and ensured you do not lack for anything, from minor details like salt and cooking oil and coffee pods in the kitchen to major things. His guide to Windermere and the lake District is a treasure and by itself is worth making the booking for. This is the intelligent person's place of stay in the lake district!
Greetings was very welcome from start to finish. Staff is very friendly and profesional. Hotel is very clean and well organised. Breakfast super delicious, presentation luxurious and very well served. Location is just perfect with spacious parking space. Definitely will come back again and recommend to anyone. Thank you to the owners for taking great care of us and effort to make our stay so welcoming.
The location is ideal. It’s about 5-minute walk from the Windermere railway station. It’s situated adjacent to the business area and easily accessible to almost everything, and meanwhile hidden in a quiet neighborhood and facing a park with an amazing view, and not to mention the tiny but beautiful garden leading to its doorstep. It’s a perfect combination of convenience and tranquility.
Good, modern hotel well situated 10 mins from Windermere and 20 from Bowness. Check in and ongoing keyless access worked well. Parking space was a available. The apartment was a bit tight on space but manageable. As other reviews have mentioned, the fridge is powered by a jet engine so it had to be switched off overnight. Bit pricey but within the range for good hotels in the area.
Lovely hotel, rooms clean, good size and lovely and warm. Staff were great, special mention to the American barman, very helpful efficient and friendly.
Great place to stay with dogs, lots of outside space for them and they are allowed in the bar and restaurant. 15 min walk into Windermere, and on a good bus route to town and bowness.
Thankyou for a lovely stay from all of us!
Absolutely loved our one night stay here. Short and sweet. The staff were so friendly and chilled out. We would defiantly go back.
The room was very luxurious, couldn’t get enough of the spa bath & the breakfast room service. In the middle of Windermere and Bowness-On-Windermere, perfect location.
Loved being welcomed by the hotel doggy too 🐶 . Very friendly atmosphere!!
It is a beautiful area to visit and Meadfoot is in a perfect location to walk into Bowness on Windermere or into the village of Windermere.
We were very happy with the accommodation, the breakfast is great and Steve and Gail are a lovely couple who provide a very professional service.
Parking is provided and the house has spacious gardens if you feel like resting there.
Amazing stay at this hotel. Boat ride to celebrate their 70th year of opening to start it off. Then a delicious dinner at the blue smoke. We got to use the thermal pool complimentary as we had some noisy guests and they were so kind to make sure our stay was absolutely perfect. Keith was particularly helpful at Scrabble!
The hotel is in a great location overlooking Lake Windermere. The staff were all very polite, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and hot. Celebrating a special birthday it was a very nice touch to have balloons, chocolates and a card from the hotel.
Definitely a hotel to return to.
Could not fault the staff. Great characters who couldn't do enough for you. Lovely, clean rooms with lovely views over Lake Windermere. Room 1 had a massive four poster bed and was very spacious. Well located for a short drive to Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere.
Beautiful building and in a lovely area.
Rooms are very outdated and definitely aren’t the type of hotel you go to for luxury. However, that being said this type of hotel is perfect for a short and sweet trip. It did the job and no complaints.
Beautiful old country manor, well maintained in a spectacular country setting. Very quiet and peaceful location but easy access to Windermere and main roads in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Friendly family-run hotel who attended to all my needs and cooked a top-hole veggie breakfast for me every morning. The room was clean and quiet, and the location is excellent.
Good location in Windermere and walking distance to Bowness for the lake. The room with bathroom and walk-in cupboard were a good size with a very comfortable king-size bed.
